'Cosmopolis' Lands June Release Dates In Canada & The U.K.

nullWith Cannes set to kick off tomorrow, one of the hottest tickets in town will be David Cronenberg's Robert Pattinson-starrer "Cosmopolis." The latest freaky entry from the director sewed up North American distribution with EOne at the beginning of the month, with a promise of a release arriving this summer. As it turns out for folks in Canada and the U.K., it will just be a matter of weeks before you'll be able to see the film.

EOne has set a June 8th bow north of the border and a June 15th debut in the U.K. for the film. Based on the book by Don DeLillo, the film centers on Eric Packer (Pattinson), a 28 year-old finance golden boy dreaming of living in a civilization ahead of this one, who watches a dark shadow cast over the firmament of the Wall Street galaxy, of which he is the uncontested king. As he is chauffeured across midtown Manhattan to get a haircut at his father's old barber, his anxious eyes are glued to the yuan's exchange rate: it is mounting against all expectations, destroying Eric's bet against it. Eric Packer is losing his empire with every tick of the clock. Meanwhile, an eruption of wild activity unfolds in the city's streets. Petrified as the threats of the real world infringe upon his cloud of virtual convictions, his paranoia intensifies during the course of his 24-hour cross-town odyssey. So yeah, Eric is having a bad day.

An impressive supporting cast is around Pattinson with Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Jay Baruchel and Kevin Durand helping to round things out. The first word from Cannes won't drop for a while as "Cosmopolis" won't be screening until Friday, May 25th but for Cronenberg and Pattinson fans, the wait won't be too long until it lands in theaters near you. No word yet on the U.S. date (though we have heard August), but we'll keep you posted.
