Count Olaf Is Up To No Good In The New Trailer For Netflix's 'Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events'

‘Tis the season for family get togethers, but we’re sure no one’s relatives will be as odious as Count Olaf. He’s the guardian of the ill-fated and orphaned Baudelaire children in the darkly funny and deliciously devilish “A Series Of Unfortunate Events” book series. The books by Daniel Handler have been adapted before, in the not particularly well received Jim Carrey vehicle in 2004. But now, a dozen years later, Neil Patrick Harris takes on the part played by Carrey, and the actor is excited about the opportunities the role affords for switching gears, as Count Olaf dons disguises to try and swindle the kids out of their inheritance.

“What’s fun about it is, being an actor, I get to play a new character in each book or in each two episodes of the show,” Harris told Entertainment Tonight. “What’s doubly fun about it is that I’m actually playing Olaf playing a character, which has been a bit confusing mentally if I’m being honest.”

The full length trailer for the Netflix series, “Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events,” is finally here and it actually looks like much more fun than expected, capturing the oddball vibe of the source material quite nicely. Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) and starring Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death.

“Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events” arrives on January 13, 2017.
