The Criterion Collection generally keeps it pretty chill when it comes to their December releases. After all, they spend the whole year making cinephiles drool, so the leadup to Christmas is generally the time when they wind things down a bit (and after announcing their killer November slate last month, they deserve a break). But that’s not say the last month of 2015 won’t have some treasures to discover.
While somewhat overshadowed by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd was just as popular during the silent era, and his films are just as enjoyable. If you don’t have the money for the massive box set of his work that was issued years back, Criterion has been putting the wacky C on select titles, and the latest is "Speedy." As usual, Lloyd plays an everyman caught in a whirlwind of slapstick and romance, and this latest edition of the movie will come with a new 4K restoration, the short "Bumping Into Broadway," commentary, and much more.

From the comedic to the fantastical, Criterion presents the directorial debut of acclaimed artist Takashi Murakimi, "Jellyfish Eyes." The bummer is that it’s a pretty barebones release, but fans will be pleased to see this in the collection.
For all you Beat fans, "Burroughs: The Movie" has been restored and now is available for all to see. Featuring new interviews with Jim Jarmusch, Aaron Brookner, and Tom DiCillo, outtakes, an "experimental edit," and more, this one is finally getting the treatment it deserves.
Lastly, the Robert Redford-starring "Downhill Racer" has been upgraded to Blu-ray.
