When it debuted at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival, critics were raving about the horror-thriller, “Luz.” Apparently, the folks at NEON were particularly impressed, as the studio has announced a new horror film, “Cuckoo,” from “Luz” filmmaker, Tilman Singer. And it appears the studio has already lined up one hell of a cast for the film.
According to Deadline, it appears NEON has signed Hunter Schafer, John Malkovich, Gemma Chan, and Sofia Boutella to star in the new horror film, “Cuckoo.” As mentioned, “Cuckoo” is the next film from the up-and-coming filmmaker, Tilman Singer, who is coming off the acclaimed festival standout, “Luz.” Plot details are unknown at this time.
While people are well aware of the talents of John Malkovich, Gemma Chan, and Sofia Boutella, as all three have appeared in a number of films and TV projects over the years, the real surprise is the inclusion of Hunter Schafer. The young actress doesn’t have a huge filmography, making her acting debut in the HBO hit series, “Euphoria.” However, her work on that show has made Schafer one of the biggest breakout actors of the past couple of years. So, it’s nice to see her land a new, fairly high-profile gig.
Filming of “Cuckoo” is expected to begin next April. If that happens, we could easily see the film debut later in 2022, perhaps at one of the fall festivals. We’ll just have to wait and see.
