Say what you will about the Disney-era “Star Wars” films. They have their fair share of problems, especially when it comes to the way ‘Rise of Skywalker’ ended the Skywalker Saga last year. However, you’d be hard-pressed to blame Daisy Ridley for those issues, as her performance in the sequel trilogy is one of the high points of the new films. But even so, the actress thinks it’s highly unlikely she’ll ever return to the galaxy far, far away.
Speaking to IGN, Ridley was asked about the future of “Star Wars” and if her character, Rey mumblesSkywalkermumbles, will be a part of it. While the actress seems to be a fan of “The Mandalorian,” she doesn’t think that Rey has a reason to exist in a future “Star Wars” story as the universe is far too vast to focus on her character.
“I think for me the beauty of ‘Episode IX’ is it ends with such hope and such potential. I just feel like that was Rey’s perfect ending,” said Ridley. “The big battle was in ‘Episodes VII,’ ‘VIII,’ and ‘IX.’ I think really she’s probably running around the forest somewhere having a great time [following the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’].”
She added, “I feel totally, totally satisfied with how that story finished. I just don’t know what else she could do that I didn’t have to do. Also, there are so many amazing characters in ‘Star Wars,’ that it’s sort of an amazing thing. I was watching the new episode of ‘Mandalorian,’ and it’s just like the places it can go beyond even where it is now is so exciting.”
No matter if you’re a fan of Rey or one of the folks that think the character is terrible, you can’t fault Ridley’s logic and hope for the “Star Wars” franchise moving forward. It’s clear with the success of “The Mandalorian,” fans are ready to explore other parts of the galaxy and see what other characters exist in George Lucas’ vast universe he created decades ago. Hopefully, the folks at Lucasfilm agree with that idea.
