Dakota Fanning And Elizabeth Olsen To Star In 'Very Good Girls'

Peter Sarsgaard, Dustin Hoffman And Sissy Spacek To Round Out Cast

The Cannes shopping continues, with streams of announcements coming out everyday. One of the more high-profile ones in the last 24 hours is “Very Good Girls,” a vehicle for fast-rising starlets Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen. The film follows two teenage girls during a New York summer, on a quest to lose their virginities, who fall-out when they fall for the same man, a street artist.

Actors Peter Sarsgaard, Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek all have supporting roles, though who they play has been kept under wraps, according to Deadline. Writer Naomi Foner (“Running On Empty“) — perhaps better known these days as the mother of Jake & Maggie Gyllenhaal (and possibly explaining the casting of son-in-law Sarsgaard) — will make her feature debut as a director with financing by Ealing Metro International and Prescience.

Olsen became a hot ticket after Sundance with “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and has signed up for quite a few interesting projects like “Liberal Arts”, Josh Radnor’s follow-up to “Happythankyoumoreplease.” Fanning, meanwhile, is starting to graduate to older roles, with last year’s “The Runaways” and the upcoming “The Motel Life,” and this should help things along. With the well-respected Foner in charge, and pedigree talent like Sarsgaard, Hoffman and Spacek behind them, the film should be plenty of rungs up the ladder from the likes of “The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants.”

Gale Ann Hurd and Hawk Koch are all set to produce with production starting in September. All this film needs is a distributor, and they should be set for a 2012 release.
