Dakota Goyo Cast As Hugh Jackman's Son In 'Real Steel'

Because every fading futuristic robot-boxing trainer needs a sidekick, Hugh Jackman has found a helper in 11-year-old Canadian Dakota Goyo, newly cast as Jackman’s son in the upcoming “Real Steel.”

Goyo, who has appeared in “Resurrecting The Champ” (another boxing movie) as well as the recent under-the-radar release “Defendor” and a handful of Canadian television shows, was selected in an open casting call February amongst many other potential actors. The Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum”) film will feature Jackman and Goyo as a father-son team training an unusual robot to win a boxing championship after Jackman’s fall from glory as an actual human boxer. A techno-savvy futuristic “Rocky” for the family, perhaps? Sounds mildly retarded? Perhaps, we’ll have to wait and see before we pass total judgement.

Dreamworks’ ‘Steel’ is scheduled to shoot this June with and will go up against “Happy Feet 2” and the next Bond film on November 18, 2011. Tentpoles away!
