Netflix produces a ton of original content. Numerous series and films are churned out on a regular basis for the world’s largest streaming platform. So, it’s hard to tell which ones are worth watching and which are most likely going to be skipped. And while you may write off “Dangerous Lies” as another fairly low-budget Netflix film offering, there’s a chance you might want to watch it as a weird alternate-universe take on Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out.”

As seen in the trailer for Dangerous Lies,” the similarities between the new thriller and Johnson’s acclaimed film from last year are striking. Both feature a young, friendly caregiver of a rich man. Both plots are thrown into chaos when the rich guy unexpectedly dies. And without going into spoilers, both films seem to have very similar results. However, whereas “Knives Out” featured an A-list cast with clever writing and plenty of jokes, “Dangerous Lies” seems to take the premise into pure mystery thriller territory.
The thriller stars Camila Mendes, Jessie T. Usher, Jamie Chung, Cam Gigandet, Sasha Alexander, and Elliott Gould. “Dangerous Lies” is directed by Michael M. Scott, from a script written by David Golden. Scott is a prolific TV director, specializing in TV movies. Over the last two years, he’s released four films including “My Mom’s Letter from Heaven,” “Christmas Lost and Found,” “Christmas on Holly Lane,” and “Secret Millionaire.”
“Dangerous Lies” hits Netflix on April 30. You can watch the new trailer below.
