Danny Boyle wants everyone to know that if a third film in the “28 Days Later” franchise happens, it’s not going to be called, “28 Months Later.”
Boyle is super coy about the details. “It don’t think it will be called ‘28 Months Later,’ that’s all I can say,” he told MTV. In fact he says the idea is still not even fully born. “I mean, it’s absolutely not written yet, but there’s a prospect of an idea and the way these ideas start is you just suddenly get a little glimpse.”
So talk sounds premature, but our guess to the name change? Easy. An virus outbreak that effects a whole country is plausible 28 Weeks after it broke out, but 28 months? That’s more than two-years afterwards. “28 Weeks Later” left off in Paris at the end, so our guess is Boyle wants to pick up quickly after that event and not have to somehow figure out how you tease the infection in France and then wait two years to explore it and explain that in the story. He just wants to get right down to it.
Oh, what about “28 Years Later”? Read the copious press Boyle’s done for “Slumdog Millionaire,” and you’ll know the sci-fi ness of “Sunshine,” ended up being a grind on him and not something he’ll want to explore anytime soon.
There, we solved it. “Slumdog Millionaire” is out today in select cities. Go see it if you can.
