The reshoots are underway on “Justice League,” with Joss Whedon behind the camera, and depending on who you ask, the additional filming is totally reshaping the picture, or is business as usual for a blockbuster. However, this latest creative change may indicate a shift in tone from Zack Snyder‘s previous pictures, and keep more in line with Geoff Johns‘ desire for more “heart, humor, hope, heroics, and optimism” in DC Films projects.
THR reveals that Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg, who scored “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and was slated to tune up “Justice League,” has been replaced by Danny Elfman. While he might be best known for his twinklier, Tim Burton associated work, Elfman is no stranger to superhero fare, scoring “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” “Hulk,” “Spider-Man,” “Spider-Man 2,” “Batman,” and “Batman Returns.” Nonetheless, his tone is distinctly lighter than Junkie XL’s much more aggressive, rock ‘n roll tendencies, which perhaps suggests that “Justice League” is going to have a softer edge than “Man Of Steel” and ‘Dawn Of Justice’ before it. As for Holkenborg, he’s taking his exit in stride.

“As my mentor Hans Zimmer told me — you haven’t made it in Hollywood as a composer until you get replaced on a project. So I guess [I] finally graduated this week. It pains me to leave the project, but a big thanks to Zack for asking me to (be) part of his vision, and I wish Danny, Joss and Warner Bros. all the best with ‘Justice League,’ ” he said.
“Justice League” opens on November 17th.
