Danny Huston To Play Poseidon In 'Clash Of The Titans' Remake

Much like he fairly successfully did in “The Incredible Hulk” Louis Leterrier’s is trying to class-up his “Clash of The Titans” remake with real actors that aren’t cardboard cut-outs. Danny Huston has joined the cast of the oily, adventure-fantasy film as the sea god, Poseidon. The film already stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton, Jason Flemyng and Alexa Davalos. Filming started Monday in London. Now Leterrier just has to not ruin the film with excess and silly action sequences and let the drama do the heavy lifting (the filmmaker was the worst part of the otherwise fairly decent ‘Hulk’). In shocking news, Chris Noth, who plays Mr. Big in the “Sex And The City,” series will return for the imaginatively titled sequel, “Sex And The City 2,” because you know, the offers are just pounding on his door and that “Law & Order: Mike Logan” movie still seems to be going nowhere. ‘Sex 2’ is due May 28, 2010. “Flanimals,” a children’s book series by U.K. comedian Ricky Gervais is being turned into a 3D (natch) animated film by Universal’s Illumination Entertainment wing. The four volume series features pink and purple creatures that look like a cross between puss-pimples, those purpley Schmoo characters from the ’70s (name escapes us) and McDonald’s Grimus. Gervais will play a “pudgy, perspiring purple creature,” that attempts to save the world. He quips, “It will be great to play a short, fat, sweaty loser for a change, a real stretch.” [Variety]

Could Benicio del Toro play ’80s decadence novelist Bret Easton Ellis (“Less Than Zero” and “American Psycho” are two examples of books made into films) in another one of his adaptations called “Lunar Park”? del Toro couldn’t be more wrong for the part looks and demeanor wise, and even Ellis agrees. “Benicio would actually be playing Bret Easton Ellis,” he said, awesomely referring to himself in the third person. “It’s a strange bit of casting.” That it is, however, we will say del Toro is a fantastic chameleon who can inhibit any character if he so chooses. Maybe not all hope is lost Bret. [MTV]
