With Zack Snyder‘s “Man Of Steel” sequel set to begin production in earnest next year, with Ben Affleck donning the cape and cowl for a brawl with the Man of Tomorrow, screenwriter David S. Goyer and Warner Bros. have decided to make their professional relationship official. We expect their Facebook status should change any second now.
Deadline reports Goyer and the studio have agreed to a three-year, first-look deal with the writer, producer, director. A project is already being eyed as Goyer’s first directorial outing since 2009’s abysmal horror movie “The Unborn.” Described as “a Hitchcockian thriller with a grounded sci-fi element,” the untitled film will be written by TV veteran Doug Jung. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, suggesting he’s learned a thing or two about secrecy from his frequent collaborator, the enigmatic Christopher Nolan.
With major content provider and developer Legendary Pictures leaving for greener pastures next year (finally winding up at Universal Studios), Warner Bros. is understandably trying to do everything they can to keep their big creative forces happy and on the studio lot, giving the go ahead to Ben Affleck’s Congo-set passion project and trading away two franchises to stay cozy with Nolan. And given that, unlike Nolan, Goyer has proven to be more than willing to stay in the superhero game, why not let the guy do a few original properties? Let’s just hope his directorial chops have improved since “Blade Trinity.”
