Australian actor Joel Edgerton will be seen reprising the role of “Star Wars” character Uncle Owen in Lucasfilm’s upcoming “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi. Edgerton had a supporting role in David Lowery‘s fantastic film “The Green Knight,” and now he’s continuing his recent trend of tackling genre projects with plans to make another streaming series.
It’s been announced by Apple TV+ (via The Wrap) that Edgerton is returning to the sci-fi genre with “Dark Mater,” a new streaming series that sees the novel’s author Blake Crouch both write and showrun the project. The book that the show is based on was originally published back in 2016.
They’ve also nabbed French director Louis Leterrier (“The Incredible Hulk,” “Clash of The Titans“) to direct the first four episodes out of the nine-episode run.
Here is the synopsis for “Dark Mater” posted by the outlet:
“The series will follow Jason Dessen, a physicist, professor, and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.”
Leterrier has been dabbling in streaming television with Netflix shows “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” and the hit anime adaptation “Lupin” starring French actor Omar Sy.
We’ll be excited to see who makes up the rest of the cast of “Dark Matter.” Edgerton can be seen in “Obi-Wan Kenobi” when the show debuts on Disney+ on May 25.
