David Byrne and Brian Eno self-released “Everything That Happens Will Happen Today” to critical acclaim in 2008, and it was supported by the “Songs Of David Byrne & Brian Eno” tour that saw Byrne (sans Eno) playing songs from the album, as well as other material they had worked on together, drawing from both his solo albums and his LPs with The Talking Heads.
By all accounts, the concerts were a grand affair with an elaborate stage show featuring dancers and Byrne pulling out all the hits from his extensive back catalog. “Ride, Rise, Roar” is a chronicle of that tour, showing both how it came together and grabbing clips from the concerts themselves. Think of it as “This Is It” with David Byrne instead of Michael Jackson. If the concerts on this tour even came close to resembling the seminal “Stop Making Sense” (which, from the all-white clothing to song selection seems to be pretty close), this should be a fun doc to watch.
You can get a quick look at the documentary, directed by David Hillman Curtis, as the trailer along with a gallery of photos can be viewed at the official website. The film will premiere at SXSW in March.
