Okay folks, this is not a test. We have news about David Fincher’s next film and who is going to star in it. That’s right, the filmmaker that is probably going to be one of the more decorated creators at this year’s Oscars is already planning his next move and it appears that he’s bringing Michael Fassbender along for the ride.
According to THR, David Fincher is ready to reteam with Andrew Kevin Walker (the screenwriter of “Se7en”) for a new thriller, “The Killer.” And it appears that the film is set to star Michael Fassbender in the lead. The film, which is based on a French graphic novel, is said to tell the story of an assassin (Fassbender) that begins to develop a conscience and doubts his work, which happens at a time when clients demand his particular set of skills.
“The Killer” is a project that has been in development for well over a decade, with Brad Pitt once thought to possibly star. While the production has yet to be formally announced, Netflix is reportedly hoping that Fincher will begin filming on the new thriller later this year, by September. If that’s the case, we could be looking at a 2022 release date, which would be only two years after “Mank,” which came six years after Fincher’s previous feature, “Gone Girl.”
As mentioned, “The Killer” reteams Fincher with his “Se7en” screenwriter, which is probably enough to get fans excited alone. However, Fassbender is one of the best actors working today, appearing in films such as “The Light Between Oceans,” “Macbeth,” and “Steve Jobs.” (We’re just going to pretend that his run of “Alien: Covenant,” “The Snowman,” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” was an alternate universe.) He’s next expected to star in “Kung Fury 2” and Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins.”
Obviously, it’s far too early to know when “The Killer” might debut on Netflix, but again, if production begins later this year, we can fully expect 2022 to feature some new Fincher. Get excited.
