David Fincher, whose highly anticipated film, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is being released this fall, expressed via interview with FirstShowing.net that he is not optimistic on the chances of the adaptation of the sci-fi novel he he has been linked with, “Rendezvous with Rama.” The novel, written by Arthur C. Clarke, has been in production purgatory for years, and Fincher has been the most recent director attached to the project.
Fincher’s comment to FirstShowing consisted of, “It looks like it’s not going to happen. There’s no script and as you know, [Morgan Freeman] is not in the best of health right now. We’ve been trying to do it but it’s probably not going to happen.” Freeman was the actor pegged to star in the film, but because of his car crash back in August, his status on the project has been in question.
The book centers around the discovery of a 30-mile long hollow cylindrical alien spaceship found in our solar system and the crew that is commissioned to investigate the mysterious object. The concept sounds like something Sci-fi fans everywhere would eat up, but it may not ever matter, since the script is yet to be developed and Fincher, one of the only directors with the influence and imagination to swing the money for a project in the vein of ‘Rendezvous’ is most likely moving on.
