David Fincher's 'The Social Network' To Make Its World Premiere At The 2010 New York Film Festival

A new trailer for David Fincher’s “The Social Network” has arrived and while it’s basically already been taken down, presumably by the forces at Sony, some more good news has arrived (at least for us New Yorkers).

Fincher’s Facebook drama, scheduled to hit theaters October 1, will open the 2010 New York Film Festival which runs September 24-October 10. And it’s a world premiere.

This means the film won’t appear at the Toronto International Film Festival, Telluride and the Venice Film Festival either (there’s some pretty intense rivalries between the fall film fests and securing worldwide or continental premieres). NYFF the organization has done a lot of internal restructuring in the last 12-18 months (adding critics like Todd McCarthy and Scott Foundas as programmers as well), so this seems like the festival is throwing down the gauntlet and asserting their presence in the festival landscape.

Last year’s NYFF… wasn’t as amazing as it could have been, so we’re hoping this is a good augur that there are more great announcements and premieres to come.

As mentioned earlier in the day, Jesse Eisenberg plays Mark Zuckerberg, the actual creator of Facebook, Andrew Garfield plays co-founder Eduardo Saverin, Justin Timberlake plays Sean Parker the co-founder of Napster and Plaxo, and the cast also includes Rashida Jones, Max Minghella, Rooney Mara, Dakota Johnson and Joseph Mazzello among some newer, not instantly recognizable faces (Brenda Song, Malese Jow).
