David S. Goyer, best known as the screenwriter who has given the world grittier takes on Batman and Superman, is also a director from time to time, and is the man who got the behind the camera for “Blade: Trinity.” It’s been five years since his last directorial effort, 2009’s “The Unborn,” but he’s getting a new gig lined up. THR reports that he’ll get behind the camera of an adaptation of Patrick Lee‘s novel, “The Breach.” Justin Rhodes is penning the script about “a corrupt ex-cop who is trying to get his life back in order when he discovers a crashed plane in the Alaska wilderness. The first lady is among those dead in the wreckage. That sets off an adventure featuring a beautiful survivor, assassins, a secret organization, alien technology and an end-of-the-world scenario.” And oh yeah, Lee’s book is the first in a trilogy (of course). No word yet on when production might start but Lionsgate has this on a fast track.
Meanwhile, Steven Soderbergh‘s regular collaborator Scott Z. Burns (“The Informant!,” “Contagion,” “Side Effects“) has one feature and a few shorts under his belt as a director, and is ready to try his hand at a sophomore full-length movie. THR reveals he’s in talks to direct “The Professor, the Bikini Model and the Suitcase Full of Trouble,” an adaptation of an article from New York Times Magazine (read it here). Burns will also write the script of the “Lolita“-esque story about “Paul Frampton, a divorced theoretical particle physicist, who meets Denise Milani, a Czech bikini model, on the online dating site Mate1.com. Milani’s pictures on the site show a dark-haired, dark-eyed beauty with a supposedly natural DDD breast size. The two begin to correspond and plan their perfect life together, but first, the woman asks the British professor if he would deliver a special package to her, setting him on a course of danger.” E-dating can be dangerous folks.
Lastly, post-rock and ’90s college radio nerds take note: Slint‘s seminal album Spiderland is getting a limited edition deluxe reissue (3,138 copies only!) by the good folks at Touch ‘N Go Records. And part of the massive package is “Breadcrumb Trail,” a new 90-minute documentary about the band by filmmaker Lance Bangs (who most recently dropped the 15-minute doc on his bud Spike Jonze‘s “Her“). The doc will chronicle the making of Spiderland, and feature interviews with the band and indie rock folks like Steve Albini, Corey Rusk, James Murphy, David Yow, Ian Mackaye, Jason Noble, and many more. Spiderland streets (again) in April, but pre-order now so you’re not left out, as these will go fast.
