David Lynch Confirms 'Twin Peaks' Blu-ray With New Material, But Sorry, No Third Season

Twin Peaks

When word emerged earlier this month that David Lynch was shooting a new promo for a forthcoming “Twin Peaks” box set, it seemed everyone had an opinion on how true those reports were. The show’s co-creator Mark Frost called it “another strange baseless rumor,” while Ray Wise (aka Leland Palmer) told Fangoria that there was indeed more coming from the cult show. “Yeah, we [shot the promo for the Blu-ray] two days ago,” he told the horror magazine. “It’s been done. I don’t know if I was supposed to leak that to anybody, but yeah, we did it and I’m not at liberty to say what was done. I can say that it’s going to be a big surprise.” Well, it’s certainly a surprise no more.

The folks at Welcome To Twin Peaks got some hands on video from a Q&A session following a screening of the David Lynch Foundation‘s Meditation, Creativity, Peace documentary at Tel Aviv Cinematique in Israel. And Lynch confirmed that yes, a new “Twin Peaks” package is coming, but don’t expect a third season of the show or anything like that.

“Rumors are just that: rumors are rumors. There’s always been rumors about things and there’s no real truth to it. I don’t know where these rumors come from, but I think they were based on some misunderstandings of what’s going on. It’s true that there will be a new Blu-ray of Twin Peaks: the pilot, the first season, the second season and there will be some special things on that Blu-ray that haven’t been seen before. That’s about all I can say,” the director revealed.

As for what that extra material is, we’ll just have to wait and see, though the prequel film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me,” 45 minutes worth of deleted scenes and more have been rumored. But anything from Lynch at this point is welcome, considering a movie seems a long way off from ever happening. Hear the man himself speak below.
