No one can begin to understand the creative brain that David Lynch possesses. This is the man that has created incredible works of film and TV art such as “Twin Peaks,” “The Elephant Man,” “Mulholland Drive,” “Blue Velvet,” and many more. His brain is an enigma that film fans don’t have a full grasp on but never want it to change. And with that being said, we now present to you David Lynch’s latest project—daily weather reports for the Los Angeles area.
For some filmmakers, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to creative bursts of energy, as they create new films, write new scripts, and generally act productively during lockdown. For others, like David Lynch, when he’s not making wall sconces or talking about Transcendental Meditation, apparently the award-winning filmmaking legend is here to provide weather reports.
No, this isn’t a joke. At least, we can’t tell if it is or not, as the daily reports are given without any hint of humor and/or irony. So far, two days into it, Lynch can be seen in his chair looking out his window and then back at the camera as he delivers the weather for the Los Angeles area in 30-second chunks. Is it performance art? Are the weather reports some satirical spin on the idea of “quarantine brain?” Or maybe, just maybe, David Lynch is a fan of meteorology and has decided to dispense his knowledge for those who care to listen? You be the judge.
Regardless, even though the videos aren’t feature films or TV episodes, the filmmaker is creating during lockdown and we’re happy to know that David Lynch is here to help us during the pandemic, even if it is by telling us the temperature.
