David Yates' 'Tarzan' Back On, Christoph Waltz To Play Villain, Emma Stone & Margot Robbie Eyed For Jane

Well, we’ll say this about Christoph Waltz—he’s got playing a villain down cold. Taking home an Oscar for playing the baddie in Quentin Tarantino‘s “Inglourious Basterds” (and another one for doing a variation of that role in “Django Unchained“), Hollywood has boxed him in as the antagonist in both “The Green Hornet” and “The Three Musketeers.” And once again, he’ll be twirling the metaphorical mustache in a big league studio movie.

Warner Bros. is getting back on the vine with “Tarzan,” which they temporarily shut down this spring, with Alexander Skarsgård still on board to wear the loincloth, and Waltz taking the role of a military figure who clashes with the linguistically challenged hero. And there’s also no word on Samuel L. Jackson, who at one point was being slated to play the ex-mercenary sidekick of Tarzan. However, the hunt is on for Jane, with Margot Robbie of the upcoming “The Wolf Of Wall Street” and Emma Stone “being considered,” though there are no formal talks.

But at the end of the day, this is still a “Tarzan” movie, which has us half-asleep with indifference already. As Variety notes, John August, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley and Adam Cozad have all had their fingers in the script, which generally isn’t a great sign for blockbuster movies. No word yet on when production will begin, but probably next year.
