Presuming “Deadpool 3” doesn’t come out until 2023 at the earliest, it’s going to have been five years between films on this successful franchise. But since the project has hired writers — “Bob’s Burgers” writers Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin — and clearly are developing this movie already, shouldn’t Marvel have already read a draft by now and have a sense of what kind of movie they want to make? Because a recent interview with Ryan Reynolds during press for “Free Guy” suggests the opposite.

When asked whether Deadpool should first appear in the MCU in his own film or someone else’s film, Reynolds says he’s open to both but seemingly suggested that Disney doesn’t really know some of their wild and crazy ideas.
“I think both are pretty warranted,” he explained to ComicBook.com about first entering the MCU in a solo or team-up film. “I think you’re always gonna zig when everybody’s expecting you to zag when it comes to that character. As long as Disney’s open to doing some pretty wildly divergent or having some wildly divergent uses of Deadpool, then I dig it, man. I think it’s all great.”
“Deadpool, for me, is kind of like an anxiety-inducing tightrope walk,” Reynolds continued about the pressure he puts upon himself to get it right and better than the previous film. “I always think when I’ve got Deadpool just right, I’m speaking from experience from Deadpool 1 & 2, that I need to make it 30 to 40% percent better than it already it is. Even if I’m at the moment where I’m like, ‘This is perfect, this moment!’ Then, I stop, and I go, ‘Okay, this has to be 30% better than it already is.’ It’s a stressful thing to get right, or at least right as far as I’m concerned. So, no, I never really thought about it, but I did love the idea of playing with Deadpool and Korg in some of the marketing materials, given the fact that Taika [Waititi] and I are in the movie. So, I kinda got to scratch the itch, inevitably anyway.”

That’s nice and all, but maybe “Deadpool 3” isn’t as locked and loaded as we hope and or Disney/Marvel is still hedging its bets on when and where to introduce the merc with the mouth? Or is Reynolds playing coy? Either way, guys, it’s been five years, and it’s slightly odd to watch a studio let a successful piece of I.P. lay dormant for that long.
