With “John Carter Of Mars” recently dropping half of its title to simply “John Carter” and now with the first poster being unveiled, it seems Disney is hell bent on making sure audiences don’t know this movie takes place in outer space. Instead, if we were to take a guess, the movie appears to be about Taylor Kitsch‘s quest to get a tribal tattoo (oh wait, that’s just the awful font treatment given to the title).
Directed by Andrew Stanton and boasting a pretty stellar cast including the aforementioned and greasy looking Kitsch, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, Polly Walker, Willem Dafoe, Lynn Collins, Bryan Cranston, Ciaran Hinds, James Purefoy, Thomas Haden Church, Mark Strong and Daryl Sabara, the film is an adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “John Carter of Mars” series, about a Civil War soldier who is transported to Mars and embarks on alien adventures. Or so we think. But this poster might just be an outtake from a recent Calvin Klein ad campaign. However, if you’re trying to sell a movie that takes place on a distant world and this supposedly gonna be one helluva visual feast, mission failed. Big time.
Anyway, a trailer should be landing any day now, most likely in front of “Cars 2.” It will hit theaters on March 9, 2012. Check out the full poster below. [Apple]
