Steve Buscemi has no shortage of iconic roles. We’re talking about the actor that has turned in incredible performances in projects such as “Ghost World,” “Reservoir Dogs,” “The Sopranos,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Fargo,” just to name several. But one of his more underseen and underrated performances is in the 2006 feature, “Delirious.” And for those who haven’t had the chance to catch his work in that film, there’s good news, as director Tom DiCillo returns to his film more than a decade later to craft a new Director’s Cut.

As seen in the trailer below, there’s a Director’s Cut of “Delirious” arriving next month and with it, a brand-new audience will be introduced to the forgotten film in the vast filmography of Steve Buscemi. In the feature, Buscemi stars as a paparazzo named Les, who takes a homeless kid (Michael Pitt) under his wing and teaches him the ins and outs of celebrity stalking/photography. However, things get thrown into chaos when the understudy becomes famous overnight and Les is left to figure out how to manage.
Joining Buscemi and Pitt in the film are Alison Lohman, Gina Gershon, Callie Thorne, Kevin Corrigan, Melissa Rauch, Kristen Schaal, Richard Short, Elvis Costello, and David Wain. As mentioned, “Delirious” is written and directed by DiCillo. He previously worked on features such as “Double Whammy,” “Box of Midnight,” and “The Real Blonde.” “Delirious” marks the last narrative feature he’s done, with his most recent work being in documentaries.
“‘Delirious’ is a very meaningful film for me, both personally and artistically,” said DiCillo. “Just before its original release some editing choices were forced upon me which I’ve always regretted. When I finally found the current owner of the rights to the film, I jumped at the chance to restore the film to its original cut. I wrote it for Steve Buscemi and he delivers one of his finest performances. I’m thrilled this Director’s Cut will give people a chance to appreciate it.”
“Delirious” would go on to win Best Director and Best Screenplay at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
“Delirious” will be released on VOD & Digital HD on October 6 from Shout Factory, and on Blu-Ray and DVD on October 13 from MVD Entertainment Group. The new release also comes with a brand-new director’s commentary from DiCillo. You can watch the trailer below.
