After the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” the just-announced Disney+ streaming TV series “Falcon and Winter Soldier” carries a lot more weight than originally thought. What could have been a fun exploration of the unlikely friendship between the two besties of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, has now turned into a show that is all about what it takes to be the man who carries the shield. And thanks to a new report, we know who will be helping tell that story.
The Wrap is reporting that Derek Kolstad has been signed on to write the limited series that is expected to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2020. As the title implies, “Falcon and Winter Soldier” will star MCU alums Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as the two characters, but with the former now accepting the role of Captain America. How the series deals with this new status quo is up in the air, as Marvel is notoriously tight-lipped about plot. But suffice to say, the series will offer fans their first look at Fal-Cap in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Kolstad is probably best known for his screenwriting work in the “John Wick” franchise. He has teamed with director Chad Stahelski to pen the scripts for all three ‘Wick’ outings, and if you’re a fan of action films, you can’t get much better than Kolstad at this point. Now, if there’s one negative that can be said about Kolstad, in regards to the “John Wick” films, at least, it is that the popularity of the franchise has little to do with the scripts and about 95% to do with Keanu Reeves and the action. That being said, there have been some pretty great action one-liners in the franchise, so that should be good.

Again, since Disney+ is still in its infancy (the release date isn’t until November), there’s really not much we can say about the typical quality or type of content you’ll find on the streaming service, especially as it relates to Marvel Studios productions. However, the very fact that Kevin Feige and his crew are overseeing production lends us to believe that “Falcon and Winter Soldier” will easily become must-see entertainment for fans of the MCU.
