With “Promising Young Woman” wowing audiences earlier this year when it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, there’s been a lot of discussion about Carey Mulligan being in the running for a Best Actress Oscar nomination. A very deserving honor for an actress that has impressed for years in a number of projects. And in the new Netflix feature, “The Dig,” we see Mulligan in another feature that is likely going to get people talking, as she stars opposite Ralph Fiennes, Lily James, and Johnny Flynn.

While it’s still unclear when we might see “The Dig” arrive on the streaming service, Netflix went ahead and released some first-look photos at the upcoming period drama. The film tells the story of a widow that hires an archaeologist to excavate some burial grounds on her land. And during that excavation, an incredible discovery is made, which changes their lives forever.
As mentioned, the film stars Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James, and Johnny Flynn. They’re also joined by actors Ben Chaplin, Ken Stott, Archie Barnes, and Monica Dolan. “The Dig” is helmed by director Simon Stone, who has one other feature under his belt, the 2015 film, “The Daughter.” When that film was released, we gave it a solid review and complimented the work done by stone bringing that film to life. So, even though he doesn’t have a ton of directing experience in filmography, it’s clear that he’s a solid up-and-coming talent worth giving the benefit of the doubt.
