At some point, you gotta wonder when it’s time to give up the fight. Relativity has been trying for a while now to get a remake of "The Crow" made, and they came closest when Jack Huston and Andrea Riseborough were attached, with cameras set to roll last year. But as per usual with the studio of late, they ran into problems, Huston bailed, and the project was dead again. And now, it’s facing further upheaval.
Director Corin Hardy ("The Woods") has been dropped from the project, after being signed to a holding deal for $150,000 in November, with the plan to shoot the movie in March. Since that time, Relativity has been though some major shakeups, with Kevin Spacey hired to run the beleaguered, financially beaten company in January, before he stepped down from his role earlier this month, with his longtime producing bud Dana Brunetti now in charge and co-steering the ship with Ryan Kavanagh. Hardy’s exit was due to Brunetti wanting to re-develop "The Crow" according to his creative vision.
But before he can do that, he’ll have to overcome a lawsuit from producer Ed Pressman, who is looking to stop Relativity from doing any remake, sequels, or prequels based on the property. And all of this is happening while the studio is trying to untangle itself from bankruptcy proceedings.
In short, it’s a mess and don’t expect "The Crow" to be flying into cinemas anytime soon. [The Wrap]
