Disney Chairman Bob Iger Says Marvel Movies "Will Go On Forever," Talks Future Of 'Star Wars' Franchise

Ranked: All The Characters Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe From Best To WorstFor those who grow weary every time a new Marvel is announced, who fret over the continually talked about "superhero fatigue," today brings some bad news. Disney Chairman Bob Iger not only disagrees that moviegoers are getting tired of spandex-suited heroes, but says that the future is so bright he’s gotta wear shades when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Marvel, you’re dealing with thousands and thousands of characters — that will go on forever," Iger told BBC Newsbeat about the franchise, and he believes the standard of quality is only getting better, and that ticket buyers will still come. "I think we keep raising the bar in terms of telling stories that bring them back, that excite them, that make it feel new and that is what we do for a living."

And given that "Avengers: Infinity War" will likely pass the torch to a new generation of heroes, this revelation by Iger isn’t quite so surprising.

As for the other mega-franchise in Disney’s pocket, "Star Wars," Iger reveals there is (obviously) more planned beyond the new trilogy and upcoming spinoffs. "There will be more after that, I don’t know how many, I don’t know how often," he said. The more reserved tone likely speaks to how much care Lucasfilm is putting into the "Star Wars" revival, making sure they make all the right moves before expanding into a multimedia phenomenon like Marvel (it’s probably a good reason why there’s no live-action "Star Wars" show coming any time soon).
