As the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger is privy to no shortage of perks. He can ride Space Mountain as many times as he wants, dig out the still unreleased-on-home-video "Song Of The South" and give it a spin if he feels like it, and getting a reservation at Club 33 is likely not a problem. And so, perhaps it’s not a surprise that when it comes to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," one of the most anticipated movies of 2015, Iger is going to play his CEO card and watch the movie more than once before the rest of the unwashed masses get the chance.
Asked by Bloomberg Television if he will view ‘The Force Awakens’ early, Iger didn’t miss a beat. "…I will see it before it comes out, probably a couple of times," he said, adding, "I have that right" as one of the perks of the job.
Frankly, if I were in his shoes, I’d do the exact same thing. In case you’re wondering, Iger lets his CEO privileges run wild at in the theme parks too. "I ride rides — I ride rides before they’re open, too," he said. Truly, the 63 year-old Iger is a kid at heart.
But the Disney honcho also had serious business to talk about, such as potentially entering the realm of the growing streaming business with Sling TV. There’s "definitely an opportunity" he said (via Deadline) for ESPN as well as "other Disney brands…. We think we have that opportunity with a Disney branded service. We may have an opportunity with a Marvel type product and possibly even Star Wars." So, possibly, maybe.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens on December 18th. Except for Bob Iger, when it opens whenever he damn well pleases.
