With the rise of streaming services delivering unprecedented numbers of original series, studios, networks, and platforms are being more adventurous with what they decide to green light. Just in the last couple of years, we’ve seen series such as “Maniac” and “The OA” pushing the limits of storytelling and genre, for example. It appears that AMC is going a bit closer to the fringe of creativity with its next series, “Dispatches from Elsewhere.”
As seen in the first teaser for the series, “Dispatches from Elsewhere” looks to be a quirky, mystery show that takes a large group of diverse people and puts them in the middle of a meta-game where they act as spies for a shadow organization. Except, things start to get a little real and the players begin to question whether or not there is more to this “game” than meets the eye.
“Dispatches from Elsewhere” is based on a real-life game from a group known as Nonchalance. The game, appropriately titled “The Game of Nonchalance,” sees players in California take part in an adventure where they discover parts of the city through hints and clues found in a narrative that is pre-written in individual “episodes.”
And if that premise wasn’t enough to intrigue you, perhaps it’s the all-star cast that will make you want to check out the AMC series. Jason Segel, Sally Field, Andre Benjamin, and Richard E. Grant all show up in the teaser. In fact, Segel is also the man behind the series, serving as the creator and producer of “Dispatches from Elsewhere.”
There’s no official release date announced for the series, but the teaser does say that “Dispatches from Elsewhere” will debut in 2020. You can watch the teaser below.
