New Documentary Being Developed About True Crime That Inspired David Lynch's 'Twin Peaks'

We may never know all the inspirations behind David Lynch’sTwin Peaks.” Honestly, who could possibly expect to survive a trip inside the filmmaker’s mind, anyway? Kidding aside, while we may not get a full-on explanation about the inner workings behind the incredibly popular franchise, Part2 Pictures and Metabook are combining for a new documentary that will explain the inspiration behind the death of Laura Palmer, according to The Wrap.

Blonde, Beautiful and Dead: The Murder Mystery That Inspired Twin Peaks” is the name of a new project that attempts to explain the inspiration of the character of Laura Palmer by examining the true crime story around real-life murder victim Hazel Drew. Hazel Drew, and the mystery surrounding her death, was famously the inspiration behind the story of Laura Palmer, which we know propels the action in “Twin Peaks.” And now, with the sudden rise of true crime docs, we’ll get a deep dive into the mystery of Hazel Drew’s death and find insight into what led David Lynch to use the crime as inspiration.

David Shadrack Smith, President of Part2 Pictures, said “This is one of those stories that you can just see and feel the second you hear about it. It has all the texture and twists of ‘Twin Peaks’ but has the beauty of being true crime with a current-day investigation unfolding alongside the events of the past. We’re excited to take a multi-platform approach to it with Metabook and create something that lives across diverse media.”

“This is such provocative subject matter that will appeal not only to ‘Twin Peaks’ fans, but also to people who love true crime,” said Metabook creator Benjamin Alfonsi. “With Part2’s proven track record of producing riveting documentary entertainment for the past decade, we’re thrilled to be working together on what we want to make a must-see television event.”

There’s no release date, let alone a network or streaming service, for the project yet. However, Part2 has previously worked with CNN and OWN on projects in the past, so finding distribution probably won’t be difficult.
