Don't Worry America, Roland Emmerich Is Going To Blow Stuff Up Again With 'Singularity'

Will Hit Theaters On May 17, 2013

Roland Emmerich and Shakespeare? That’s the question that nearly brought a nation to its knees when it was announced that Emmerich was temporarily putting his pyro gear aside (sort of) and focusing on the conspiracy theory that the Bard didn’t really write all those plays. Shocking stuff, we know. And while the trailer for “Anonymous” still showed he can’t go through a full movie without at least a few ‘splosions, it looks like he wants to go back to delivering them wholesale.

THR reports that Columbia is preemptively picking up a new project titled “Singularity” based on a spec script from the director and that it will be “a return to epic scope” of stuff like “Independence Day,” “Godzilla,” “2012” and “The Day After Tomorrow.” Those are the only details now on the project that Emmerich plans to direct. You might also remember that Emmerich was recently offered the prestigious gig of helming the “Asteroids” movie and apparently he’s also eyeing an adaptation of Isaac Asimov‘s “Foundation,” but it looks like this one is a go, with a May 17, 2013 release date now scheduled.

So, we’ll wait to see how this turns out but if you want to see what Emmerich does with frilly dresses, “Anonymous” opens on September 30th.
