DreamWorks To Turn Award Winning Animated Short 'Alma' Into Feature Film

Guillermo Del Toro To Executive Produce

DreamWorks Animation is making good on their deal with director Guillermo Del Toro, signing him on to direct the animated “Trollhunters” while executive producing and consulting on a number of projects including “Kung Fu Panda 2,” “Puss in Boots” and “Megamind.”

Well, one more project has landed on his plate as DreamWorks is in negotiations with director Rodrigo Blass to turn his award-winning short “Alma” into a feature film. The deal will see Blass direct and Del Toro executive produce the story about a store filled with dolls where not everything is at it seems. The short won the award for best animation at the L.A. Shorts Fest as well as best Andalusian short at Spain’s Animacor International Animation Festival. It’s pretty nifty little piece of work, both creepy and compelling, and definitely has the opportunity to grow into a feature project. Blass has a long history at Pixar and would be a solid addition to the DreamWorks Animation. Check out the short which earned him attention after the jump:
