Well, it was hinted at a few weeks back, but it’s official now: Paul W.S. Anderson will be directing “Resident Evil 6.” In fact, when it comes to the next “Resident Evil” movie, everything appears to be business as usual. Anderson will be back, his wife Milla Jovovich will be back, it will be released in the month of September (September 12th, 2014, to be exact), just like every other “Resident Evil” movie except the first one. Also, the film will be using the same visual effects house that’s been used for ‘Apocalypse,’ ‘Afterlife,’ and ‘Retribution.’ While no plot details have been released regarding the sixth installment, we do know that it’s supposed to mark the conclusion of a trilogy that Anderson has had in mind when he was developing ‘Afterlife.’ Isn’t that grand? Try to contain your excitement.
And if that’s not enough Paul W.S. Anderson-related news for you for one day, we’ve got more! “Mad Men” star Jared Harris has officially joined the filmmaker’s 3D action-adventure film “Pompeii.” Harris will join a cast that includes “Sucker Punch” actress Emily Browning as well as Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”). Set in 79A.D., “Pompeii” tells the story of slave Milo (to be played by Kit Harington) who is in love with his master’s daughter (Browning), but she is bethrothed a Roman general. However when Vesuvius erupts, he makes his way back to the city to rescue his love, and his best friend, a gladiator, who is trapped in the Coliseum. Harris will be playing Flavia’s father.
There’s no set release date for “Pompeii,” but it’s expected in 2014. That’s right, a double dose of Paul W.S. Anderson movies next year. Brace yourself. [FirstShowing/THR]
