'Dumb And Dumber To' Finds A Home At Universal

nullIt’s been quite some time since we last saw Harry and Lloyd. Yes, there was that abysmal “Dumb and Dumberer” prequel and there was even a Saturday morning cartoon series which was terrible in its own way, but forgivable from a nostalgic point of view.  As far as we were concerned the real Harold and Lloyd were where we last left them at the end of “Dumb and Dumber,” wandering the desert in search of fame and fortune. However, thanks to Universal Pictures, a proper sequel to the comedy classic is finally on the horizon.

Deadline has learned that Universal Pictures has inked a deal for domestic distribution of “Dumb and Dumber To,” after Warner Bros. put it into turnaround last week. The sequel would finally reunite Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels with directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly who helmed the original film. Sean Anders and John Morris of “Hot Tub Time Machine” fame originally wrote the script for the sequel, but the sibling directors will be using a version that they rewrote themselves.

The movie is being fast-tracked into production as you read this, but not for any nefarious reasons. It’s simply due to the fact that if it doesn’t get done soon, scheduling conflicts will push it way back. After all, Jeff Daniels has the hit HBO series “The Newsroom” to get back to and Jim Carrey shoots “Loomis Fargo” this fall.

The upcoming sequel will find Lloyd (Carrey) and Harry (Daniels) back on another road trip adventure, so Harry can find his illegitimate daughter for a kidney transplant. Not surprisingly, the film will retain its PG-13 rating.  Are you thrilled that the gang is back together?  Or is this a case of too little too late? Let us know!
