Larry King To Be A Recurring Character On The Cartoon Show
Oh hey, so in case you forgot, Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s first project out of office is incredibly lame sounding “The Governator.” First announced last week, the brewing franchise (seriously) will span comic books and television with Arnie reimagined as a crime-fighting former politician (sigh) who has his own Bat-cave sort of thing under his mansion, is assisted by a techie security guy named Zeke Muckerberg and squares off against Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons (or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men, for short). It sounds like Stan Lee, who is helping develop this thing, didn’t see one bad idea he couldn’t use and now this mess of awfulness is being developed into a movie.
THR reports that Arnie, who is currently hawking this thing at MipTV in Cannes, has announced that “The Governator” would just be limited to the small screen and (probably) overpriced comics. “First will come (The Governator) comic books, then a [cartoon] TV series and after that we will develop the games and then a movie,” Schwarzenegger said. “Maybe then we’ll be back in Cannes for that.” Hooray.
Is there anyone who is looking at this project with any resembling serious interest? Well, somebody must be because German sales group Your Family Entertainment has picked up the worldwide rights and we presume they figure there are a few people who will pay money. We’re just not sure who those people are.
This is the worst sort of vanity project to come down the pike in the while. While Zack Snyder was (rightly) lambasted for his lame-brained “Sucker Punch,” at least it was his own vision (for better or worse). But “The Governator” is just an old punchline that somehow has gotten people to pay actual money into making the thing. This is worse than developing a board game movie. This is a movie based on a pun that’s no longer funny being spun into a franchise that’s even less clever than the one word it’s based on.
And as if you need any more ammo as to how truly terrible this whole idea is, Larry King plays as an investigative reporter who will be a recurring character in the project. That’s who the kids want to hear! Larry King! Woo! Keep up the great work Hollywood! A first trailer for the project has arrived and wow, it looks fucking horrible (when was this animated? 1983?).
