Duncan Jones' 'Source Code' The Official Opening Film Of The 2011 SXSW Film Festival

You can smell the beer, bbq and sweat already, as in about three months, everyone in the film world will descend upon Austin for the SXSW Film Festival, and they’ve got a helluva opening film waiting for those who make the journey.

Duncan Jones‘ highly anticipated “Source Code” will kick things off as the official Opening Night Film. The film centers on a soldier, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who is part of an experimental government program investigating a terrorist incident. He finds himself in the body of an unknown commuter living and reliving a harrowing train bombing until he can find who is responsible for the attack. The film features a fantastic supporting cast including Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan, Jeffrey Wright and comedian Russell Peters.

The unveiling means that SXSW attendees will get to see the film pretty much at the same time as it hits UK cinemas on March 11, 2011 and have a couple weeks lead on the U.S. release date of April 1, 2011. It’s definitely some big, exciting news for a festival that is usually full of fantastic surprises and hidden treasures. You can look for us out there in Austin. We’ll be ones covered head to toe in bbq sauce.

The SXSW Film Festival runs from March 11-19, 2011.
