“Dune” is upon us, folks. After a long delay, Denis Villeneuve’s adapation of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel is hitting theaters (…and HBO Max, sigh) this week. Well, Villeneuve’s adaptation of the first half of the novel, to be more specific. And in this episode of The Playlist Podcast, we discuss whether or not “Dune” is worth your money (spoiler alert: it is), and also, if you should skip the theaters and just watch it on HBO Max instead (spoiler alert: you shouldn’t)?
“Dune” tells the story of House Atreides, the new ruler of the planet Arrakis, aka Dune. While the Atreides family grows accustomed to life on the desert planet, which produces the universe’s most valuable resource, known as spice, there are political moves going on behind the scenes that threaten the fate of the royal family and the people of Arrakis.
As mentioned, “Dune” is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who is known as one of the best filmmakers working today, with features such as “Prisoners,” “Sicario,” “Arrival,” and “Blade Runner 2049” in his filmography. And without spoiling much of the below discussion, “Dune” very well might be his best work yet.
