Dustin Hoffman looks to have re-whet his appetite for acting with the thesp now attached to star in both Vadim Perelman’s drama “The Song Of Names” and an adaptation of Irwin Shaw’s “Nightwork.”
Hoffman will star opposite Anthony Hopkins in Perelman’s ‘Song,’ which is based on Norman Lebrecht’s novel of the same name and follows a British man who gets his first clue about the disappearance of a childhood friend, and begins to unravel the mystery 40 year later. The story is being adapted for the screen by “The Constant Gardner” writer Jeffrey Caine with James Horner (“Avatar”) attached to score.
The adaptation of “Nightwork,” meanwhile, follows a man who stumbles across a fortune hidden in a hotel corpse and then flees across Europe running from the men whose money it is. “How To Train Your Dragon” scribe William Davies is adapting the project which is being set up at Ealing Studios in the U.K. for a $30-40 million production.
It’s a good see a little renaissance from Hoffman who definitely has a lot to offer still; his last lead role was the Golden Globe nominated performance in Joel Hopkins’ “Last Chance Harvey” with some memorable supporting roles to boot. The actor also has his exciting collaboration with Michael Mann and David Milch on HBO’s horse racing drama “Luck” which we’re pretty damn excited for.
