Dustin Lance Black Set To Adapt Graphic Novel '3 Story: The Secret History Of The Giant Man'

Oscar-winning scribe and upcoming director Dustin Lance Black has been tapped to pen an adaptation of Matt Kindt’s Dark Horse Comics graphic novel, “3 Story: The Secret History Of The Giant Man” which has just been acquired by Warner Bros.

The novel follows the modern fable of Craig Pressgang, a man inflicted with a medical condition that causes continuous growth leading him to grow up to 3 stories tall with the tale told through the eyes of three woman in his life; his mother, his wife and his daughter.

It’s apparently arty fare that features a melancholic and downbeat ending though Black’s take will reportedly focus on the father-daughter relationship while spinning the conclusion presumably with more optimism — something the studio has been impressed with. Overall, it seems very much in the vein of David Fincher’s “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button” with its fantastical twist and philosophical grounding that has the potential to be interesting in the hands of the right director. MTV suggest Tim Burton in their ‘Adapt This’ column but that’s almost the exact opposite of where we’d want this to go.

Black, whose career went into the stratosphere after penning Gus Van Sant’s “Milk,” has continued to circle intriguing projects including a writing gig for Clint Eastwood’s gestating Edgar Hoover biopic. Hopefully it’ll continue as well with his directorial debut “What’s Wrong With Virginia” starring Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris due for release this fall.
