It appears that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt will be superheroes after all. According to a new report from THR, both A-listers are set to join the upcoming film, “Ball and Chain,” bringing marital strife to the world of tights and capes.

The report claims that Johnson and Blunt, who set to appear together as co-stars in the upcoming Disney film, “Jungle Cruise,” are going to reteam to play a married superhero couple in the upcoming film, “Ball and Chain,” which is written by Oscar-nominated scribe Emily V. Gordon (“The Big Sick”). The film follows the story of a husband and wife superhero team that begins to experience marital issues. However, those issues are complicated by the fact that both partners’ superpowers only work when they’re around each other.
While Johnson is still in active development for his decade-long superhero passion project, “Black Adam,” Blunt has toyed with playing a superhero in the past. She actually was the first choice to play Black Widow in “Iron Man 2” a decade ago but had to pass on the project, which eventually led to Scarlett Johansson to get the role. She was also a fan-favorite choice to play Captain Marvel and has been the clear choice by folks to play a lead, alongside her husband, John Krasinksi, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot. Clearly, fans are ready to see Blunt in action.
There’s no director or studio lined up for “Ball and Chain,” which is based on a ‘90s comic book of the same name. However, the report claims that the film will “likely” end up on Netflix, which makes sense considering that Johnson’s next film, which he also produced, “Red Notice” is also debuting on Netflix. And as we’ve seen with other stars and filmmakers, Netflix loves to keep working with big names whenever possible.
