Dwayne Johnson Reveals 3 Clues About The DC Character Warner Bros Is Developing For Him

Hercules

In DC Comics‘ and Warner Bros‘ ongoing attempt to emulate the Marvelverse and introduce huge numbers of characters to the screen, with all the attendant potential for standalones, spin-offs and the like, one name has been around for a long time without becoming attached to any known role. Or rather, two names, one guy: The Rock, maybe better known nowadays as plain Dwayne Johnson. Rumors have swirled for ages, such that we basically know for sure the man will be in a DC movie soon— probably at least for a moment in “Batman vs Superman,” likely with a bigger role in a putative “Justice League” movie a year or two later.

Yesterday, Johnson stoked the fires of speculation a little more, talking at length about the kind of role it would have to be without really saying anything concrete (strictly, he didn’t even confirm he’s been cast, but c’mon). And for those that like a puzzle, he revealed three clues about the character he might be playing (via ComingSoon), adding that the project is out to writers:

“The first quality we were looking for is that he had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on and what that does for me as an actor and for the studio, just gives us space that we can explore his complexities. The other quality is that the character we were looking for had to be well known but never brought to life. That does, again as an actor, is that it gives me a little bit of space and it just gives me a chance to put an imprint into his personality with the set of tools that I can bring to the table and put a very unique twist on his personality but still pay homage to who he is. The third thing and most important is that he had to be a badass mother***ker and on a Superman level of power where he could throw down.”

Let the speculation begin! Is this a longwinded way of saying he’ll be playing Lobo (even though a year ago, Dwayne Johnson said that character “went away” and it’s debatable how well known he is?). Any other DC character that fits the bill we’re not thinking of? Let us know below, and yeah, don’t count on it being Green Lantern.
