Frankly, I’m surprised it’s taken this long for this news to arrive. Last summer, Dwayne Johnson brought his brilliant smile and massive biceps to "San Andreas" and dropkicked the disaster movie to over $470 million worldwide. That’s a very healthy figure, so, inevitably, he will do it again.

New Line has tapped Neil Widener and Gavin James to write a sequel to "San Andreas," with the The Rock set to reprise his role as the guy you want to be around when everything goes to hell. Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, and Paul Giamatti are expected to return as well. The movie will focus on the Ring Of Fire in the Pacific Ocean, which features both fault lines and active volcanoes. So, yeah, "San Andreas 2" is gonna be bigger and even more disaster-y.
Brad Peyton will be back in the director’s chair, too. No planned release date yet, but it sounds like this one won’t be too far off. [THR]
