Ok, we’ll readily admit, this is a pretty crappy scan (though thank you, reader, we still appreciate) and we’ll replace it when we get a better one, but if you’ve ever wanted to see what a blond, curly-haired Emma Stone would look like, here’s your first chance. It might not be online yet, but in the pages of Entertainment Weekly, there’s quite the sizable article on “The Help,” the film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s novel about African American maids working in white households in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s.
So this is your first look at Emma Stone, and Allison Janney in the Tate-Taylor-directed film.
The film has quite the female cast starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, Sissy Spacek, Jessica Chastain, Octavia Spencer, and David Oyelowo among others.
Based on the beloved New York Times bestselling novel, the Southern integration drama is about a recent college graduate in the 1960s (Stone) who decides to write a book highlighting the plight of African-American domestic help in Mississippi. It centers on three ordinary women in 1962, Mississippi: Aibileen Clark the black maid (Davis); twenty-two-year-old Skeeter (Stone) who has a a degree, but her mother (Janney) will not be happy ’til she’s engaged; and Minny Jackson, Aibileen’s best friend and the sassiest woman in Mississippi (Spencer). Howard plays an antagonistic woman who dislikes the maids. Chris Lowell from “Veronica Mars” and “Life As We Know It” also has a role.
An actor as well as a filmmaker, Taylor, who previously directed the comedy “Pretty Ugly People,” wrote the picture and is also directing it with Chris Columbus producing through his 1492 banner. “The Help” has wrapped shooting and is slated for an August 12, 2011 release.
