Early 'Frozen 2' Reactions Describe A "Darker, More Complex" Adventure That Is "Breathtakingly Beautiful"

As if Disney needed another hit in 2019, the studio is already amping up for its next box office behemoth, “Frozen 2.” The sequel to the massive billion-dollar-grosser from 2013 is only days away and with the first critics getting a chance to screen the film, you know what time it is — reaction time!

Now, before we jump to the reactions, it’s always important to preface these pieces with a bit about why reactions tend to be more positive than you normally see. Remember, these are normally posted minutes after viewing the film (we all get a post-screening high, you can’t help it), but there’s also only so much nuance you can get into on Twitter, in the limited characters available. So, it’s just plain easier to write “it’s great” than give a 1,000-word explanation for why it’s a good film but has serious issues.

All that to say, take these reactions as general guidelines and not the be-all, end-all truth about “Frozen 2.” Because, as you might expect, people are reacting favorably to Disney’s latest animated film.

“It’s a darker, more complex and more emotionally mature story, continuing everything you love about the first movie and upping the ante while maintaining the intimacy of the original. Gorgeous animation, wonderful new characters and (FINALLY) a Kristoff song!” tweeted Drew Taylor.

Atom Tickets’ Alisha Grauso called the film “breathtakingly beautiful,” while Mashable’s Angie Han said the film features “eye-popping fantasy sequences, nice moments for your faves, LOTS of new songs incl the earworm-y “Into the Unknown,” and an unbearably cute new critter.”

Long story short, it appears that fans of the original “Frozen” are going to find plenty to get jazzed about in the sequel. But at this point, with Disney seemingly figuring out how to make films that easily earn $1 billion or more at the box office, are we at all surprised that the studio has made another quality “Frozen” movie?

“Frozen 2: Froze Harder” arrives in theaters on November 22.
