Edgar Wright To Follow-Up 'Scott Pilgrim' With 'Baby Driver'? 'Ant-Man' And 'The World's End' Will Have To Wait

Despite the belief that his next project would be one of either “The World’s End” or Marvel’s “Ant-Man,” director Edgar Wright has now admitted that he would “like to make ‘Baby Driver’ next if possible.”

Thus far, little is known about “Baby Driver” other than the fact that the project is part of a two picture deal between Wright and Working Title — the other being “The World’s End.” Accompanying that press release was also the ominous logline for “Baby Driver”: “a wild spin on the action and crime genre which will be set in the U.S.”

Last we heard, Wright’s frequent collaborator Simon Pegg had hoped to begin scripting and possibly production on the final installment of their ‘Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy, “The World’s End,” after Wright was done with “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” and he and Frost were done with “Paul,” directed by Greg Motolla around September. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Cryptically, director Wright added: “Simon’s not involved in ‘Pilgrim.’ And I was kind of involved with ‘Paul’ as a producer at the start, but basically I can’t be in two places at once. I’m not one of those people who can do three things at the same time, even though I try to be. So once I’m doing one thing, like this, I’m only doing this. Other things – like ‘Ant-Man’ and me and Simon’s next film – have all gone away until I’m done with this.”

To throw another spanner in the works — just last week, Wright noted he planned to return to the “Ant-Man” script after ‘Scott Pilgrim’ – which is currently filming and will probably occupy Wright for a while longer. Obviously, this could simply mean after ‘Pilgrim’ as well as “Baby Driver” but where would that leave “The World’s End”? What would Pegg and Frost have to say about this? And with a “Star Trek” sequel set for summer ’11, surely Pegg would have to begin production on that mid-to-late ’10?

Whatever project Wright pursues next though, don’t expect the level of media attention ‘Scott Pilgrim’ has garnered through it’s production blog: “On [‘Scott Pilgrim’] and other things I’ve been blogging furiously and putting up a photo every day, but I think when I do [“Baby Driver”] I’d like to go completely silent for once. Probably because it’s not an adaptation or anything, or a sequel to anything else. I’d like to just make it in private, basically.”

Both “Paul” and ‘Scott Pilgrim’ are set for a summer 2010 release. [Empire]
