Director Edgar Wright’s been having somewhat of a “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” reunion of late. The stars of the that 2010 action comedy romance, Michael Cera and Chris Evans, are currently on Broadway starring in Kenneth Lonergan’s latest play “Lobby Hero” and the “Shaun Of The Dead” filmmaker was there for opening night along with ‘Pilgrim’ star Aubrey Plaza and he’s been promoting the hell out of the play on social media.
And another team up has just hit: Wright has directed the video for “Colors,” the title track from Beck’s latest 2017 record. Beck, of course, wrote original music for “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” composing the punk-heavy tunes for Michael Cera’s fictional garage band Sex Bob-Omb in the movie that also stars Alison Pill and Mark Webber. Beck wrote four original tunes for the band that were featured in the movie. The musician’s Prince-esque ironic soul sex-up song, “Debra,” was also prominently featured in Wright’s last film, “Baby Driver.”
“Colors” stars actress Alison Brie and the video is fully choreographed with dance routines designed by Ryan Heffington. Wright has directed several music videos but appears to be in no rush to fit them into his busy schedule. His last clip was in 2014 for “Gust Of Wind” Pharrell Williams featuring Daft Punk.
However, the most famous video from the director is perhaps the 2003 video for Mint Royale’s “Blue Song.” While not a huge hit at the time, that video went a little viral when it was revealed that the entire opening scene is “Baby Driver” is just another version of Wright’s own music video. Clearly, the director thought the video was such a good idea, he made a whole film based on it.
Perhaps, we’re going to see a future Edgar Wright movie open with yellow and blue-clad dancers? Ok, so maybe not. But still, enjoy the video!
