When it was revealed this week that “The Dark Tower” was going to be delayed in order to ensure the special effects get the attention they deserve, it was one domino that started a chain reaction at Sony, that saw them revamp their 2017 lineup. So here’s what you need to know:
“The Dark Tower” starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will now open on July 28, 2017, taking over the release date previously held by “Jumanji” which will now hit cinemas on December 22, 2017.
Meanwhile, Edgar Wright‘s “Baby Driver” has moved from March 11, 2017 all the way to August 11, 2017. That might seem worrying, especially to those who remember the box office disappointment “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” faced in a similar frame, but that was an entirely different time. Where the summer movie season tended to end after July, the month has now become an equally viable playground. And Sony is putting “Baby Driver” up against “CHiPs” and “The Coldest City” starring Charlize Theron, so clearly, they’re confident about what they have.
The continually delayed “Patient Zero” starring Natalie Dormer and Matt Smith will now open on February 17, 2017 where it will go up against “A Cure For Wellness,” “Fist Fight” and “The Great Wall.” As for the Bella Thorne led thriller “Keep Watching,” it now lands on March 24, 2017 where it will face “King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword” and “Power Rangers.”
The “Flatliners” remake has been pushed back one month to September 29, 2017 and we’ve saved the biggest news for last: “Emojimovie: Express Yourself” will now open opposite “Alien: Covenant” on August 4, 2017.
