Eduardo Noriega Takes On Arnold Schwarzenegger In 'Last Stand'

With filming set to begin later this month, the final piece is in place for Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s lean mean “Last Stand” as the villain has finally been found.

Eduardo Noriega, probably best known for starring opposite Penelope Cruz in “Open Your Eyes” (remade by Cameron Crowe into “Vanilla Sky“) will lead the team of baddies in “I Saw the Devil” helmer Kim Ji-woon‘s English language and Hollywood debut. Penned by first-time writer Andrew Knauer and veteran Jeffrey Nachmanoff—and recently rewritten by George Nolfi—the story follows a disgraced LAPD cop in a new job in a small town who is trying to stop a drug cartel leader, Cortez (Noriega), who has just busted out of prison and is trying to make it across the border with $400 million bucks. Jaimie Alexander, Zach Gilford and Rodrigo Santoro are the team of cops on the small town force working with Ahnuld, and together they will team up against Peter Stormare who works for Cortez. It’s a pretty solid mix of smaller names in what sounds like a pure B-movie through and through, though with Kim Ji-woon at the helm, he’ll likely be bringing his unique verve to the project which makes us pretty optimistic for this one.

This marks a pretty busy time for the Governator who has been lining up a handful of movies now that he’s not in office. He’s already been hard at work on “The Expendables 2,” and here’s a picture from the set to prove it. We hope that Hawaiian shirt makes the final cut. The old man reunion hits theaters on August 17, 2012, while Arnie will make a “Last Stand” on January 18, 2013. [Variety/ComingSoon]
