Elizabeth Olsen Will Appear In ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ Scarlett Johansson Talks Solo Movie & More

Elizabeth Olsen, Scarlett Johansson, Avengers UltronAvengers: Age Of Ultron”  (read our review) isn’t even in theaters yet, but talk has already moved on to “Captain America: Civil War,” Marvel’s next big movie adventure. Though, to be fair, ‘Ultron’ has already grossed $9.5 million because it’s opened in 11 foreign markets. We digress. As discussed before — and it’s kind of teased at the end of ‘Ultron’ — ‘Civil War’ could possibly contain a lot of Marvel characters.

We basically already know it features Captain America (Chris Evans), the adversarial Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and most likely Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner — in a video interview below he doesn’t deny it), plus Crossbones (Frank Grillo), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), with Daniel Brühl playing a still secretive villain. And there’s plenty more Avengers that could potentially jump in as well, and one of them is Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Scarlet Witch in ‘Ultron.’ Asked whether she’d reprise her role in ‘Civil War,’ Olson confirmed, saying, "I guess I’m allowed to talk about that now." Olsen didn’t reveal further details, but said she’ll film her scenes in Atlanta in two weeks.

Now that more females are entering the MCU, fans want to know: will there be a Black Widow solo movie? The answer as usual is "maybe." “I’ve spoken to Kevin [Feige] about it,” Scarlett Johansson told Collider recently. “I mean, of course we’ve had that conversation before, and I think Kevin would also like to see a standalone film. I think I can speak for him and say that. That’s all, really. Right now I think this character is used well in this part of the universe, but I think that Kevin—I mean, we’ve talked about it and we both share similar vision for what could be a standalone series.”

Translation: she’s a great utility player and we’ll leave her as that for now, but keep the door open. So what’s her role in ‘Winter Solider’ and will her past — teased in ‘Ultron’ — be explored further?

"I think that the Widow’s past will always haunt her," she told IGN (you can watch the interview below). "She’s trying to move forward, she’s trying to pick up the pieces of her life. I think we’ll see parts of that in ‘Cap 3’ when we find her. And certainly she has a greater purpose, and I think that greater purpose is charged by this need to escape her past. So, it’s always kind of right there, kind of looming over her shoulders."

In a separate interview with Reuters, Johansson hinted at a darker tone inCivil War "I can’t elaborate too much on it," she said. "But as the scope of these movies is larger and larger and the danger kind of looms larger and larger, I don’t want to say that the film has a darker tone, but the film has a darker tone and I think it’s maturing along with the fans."
